Imagine that you’re getting ready to sell your car. You wouldn’t pull into the dealership with coffee still in your cup holder and fast food wrappers in the backseat, would you? No, you would clean and declutter your vehicle to get it ready for sale so you could make more money.
Isn’t the same true for listing your home?
If you are thinking of selling your home this spring, there are four key things you can do now to prepare:
1. Make your home picture perfect. All of your personal items should be removed and your countertops should be clear. The fact is that more than 95% of buyers start their search online. Make that first impression count by cleaning and decluttering your home before you take your listing photos.
2. Start packing now. Depersonalizing is key to attracting as many buyers as possible. Not everyone has the same taste. Your home should be neutral and clean. Plus, homes are moving quickly these days, spending an average of 30 days or less on the market. It’s a good idea to get a head start on packing because it will help your home sell and make your move easier.
3. Pay attention to curb appeal. Once a buyer has seen the home online, the next thing they'll do is drive by to see if it’s as good in person as it is in the pictures. Update your landscaping, and pay attention to your front door and the porch. A fresh coat of paint on the front door can help too.
4. Update the backyard. People spend a considerable amount of time in the backyard. Create an outdoor living space by getting some patio furniture and a firepit to sell buyers on the outdoor lifestyle.
Ultimately, the goal is to make your house feel like a home for potential buyers.
